Organized in 1835, the New Orleans Greys, named for the color of their uniforms, was formed for service in the Texas War of Independence. Volunteers, the Greys fought and died at the Battle of the Alamo and in the Goliad Campaign. Some also fought at the Battle of San Jacinto. Their flag is the only one to be known with certainty to have been flown at the Alamo. |
