During the Mexican-American War (1846-48), militia units were raised to support the U.S. Army. Ms. Julia Stewart presented the unit flag to Captain John Roane who commanded the Avengers from Van Buren in Crawford County, Arkansas. The flag had 6 red and and 7 white stripes. The field was light blue, with 28 painted black stars. The words "Try US" were embroidered in the blue field, below the stars. The flag is on display at the Old State House Museum in Little Rock. |
